A NEW SEASON Thoughts and feelings on a new stage of life The Fall came upon me like the sudden arrival of a house guest we knew would arrive but secretly hoped would be delayed.
I was setting up my new office sometime last week and, looking outside, was struck by the realization that the light was just not quite right for the summer, the leaves were not quite their proper color, and the air sky just didn't seem summery. All at once I felt a tremendous urge to "get caught up" with things and so moved "write a blog post" from the bottom of my list to the top.
Since my last post I've graduated, moved to New York, gotten work with a very well-respected consulting firm, left that firm, left New York, moved to Richmond, taken a much-overdue vacation to Europe, come home, settled in to this new home, and developed a whole new set of concerns.
At some point in my life it will sink in that trading one set of concerns for another is not necessarily an improvement... And yet I am much more at ease in this new arrangement than I suspected I would be. I don't think I'm going to be writing much about my feelings on work, education, or goals over the course of the next few months.
My online task for the moment is to "catch up" (whatever that means) and try to process my thoughts and experiences as they come. I still have undeveloped thoughts from my (as of yet unblogged) trip to the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, and the UK - not to mention the experience of graduating from Darden.
So, in the spirit of Annie Dillard (whose "Pilrgim at Tinker Creek" I am rereading at the moment) I am going to try to write my thoughts as a way of seeing my life more accurately.
For now I really have to go work out, but I will be back eventually and hope to have more photos. Perhaps we can even begin a dialogue again!
Hope so.
p.s. in the image above, I've juxtaposed an image from my first day of class at Darden (Section E!) and my final day, receiving my diploma in the Darden quad. Posted September 28, 2009 Great...
